Diphu, June 2 (EMN): The Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) is sure to win many seats in the upcoming Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) election and give the BJP a run for its money, Daniel Teron, the party secretary and propaganda in charge said on Thursday.

Out of a total of 26 seats, the ASDC has fielded candidates in 18 Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) seats. The party is contesting the election with poll the agendas of implementing Article 244 (A) for creation of autonomous state in the three hill districts of Assam, opposing the declaration of eco-sensitive and elephant corridor in Karbi hills adjacent to Kaziranga National Park, demanding handing over of Diphu Medical College and Hospital to KAAC authority, proper implementation of MoU signed in 1995 and publication of voters and land pattas into English.

Teron also clarified about not fielding a candidate in the CEM’s constituency saying that the allegations by a section of people about ASDC having an understanding with the CEM are not true. ‘We are going to bring down Tuliram Ronghang. We are not like the Congress’, he added.

He said that in Amri, the ASDC is supporting Amri Development Front independent candidate Elwin Teron and in Bithung Rengthama, CEM Tuliram Ronghang constituency, though the ASDC candidate filed nomination, it has been withdrawn and that the party is supporting All Party Hills Leaders Conference independent candidate Bikram Hanse.

In Amreng also, the ASDC has not fielded its own candidate and is supporting Biren Hanse, an independent candidate.

Teron blamed the ruling BJP at KAAC for doing nothing in the last five years.
