ATMA conducts trainings, Kisan Gosthis in Mokokchung and Tuensang

Farmers from Among FSG during the capacity building programme conducted by ATMA Mokokchung, Ongpangkong North block, on September 8.

DIMAPUR — The Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Mokokchung, Ongpangkong North block, held a capacity building programme on the cultivation of winter vegetable crops and a Kisan Gosthi at Longsa village, Mokokchung, on September 8.

The resource person for the programme was Samuel Anar, ACTO (Agronomy), KVK, Tuensang.

During the programme, Anar discussed the cultivation of winter vegetable crops and emphasised the significance of the nursery for various vegetable crops, nursery bed preparation, and nursery management.

He elaborated on the pests and diseases of rabi vegetables and their management strategies and noted the nutritional value of various vegetables and their effect on human health.

He also emphasised their economic value for income generation, and farmers were encouraged to adopt crop rotation practices, plant at the appropriate seasons, and use better seed varieties.

In total, ten female farmers from Among Farmer Support Group (FSG) participated in the programme, and all of the farmers received winter vegetable seeds such as broccoli, cabbage, knol khol, Chinese cabbage, coriander, beans, and bio-fertiliser.

A Kisan Gosthi was also organised for progressive farmers to interact with farmers and scientists for the horizontal expansion of technology. 

Farmers shared various field problems encountered in their farming process, such as gundhi bug in paddy, fall army worm in maize, corn borer in colocassia, rice blast, and so on, during the interaction session.

Anar shared various technical knowledge and solutions to the farmers’ problems. He encouraged farmers to practise crop rotation, pest infestation monitoring, seed selection, nursery raising, summer ploughing of the field, timely weed removal, balanced fertiliser use as recommended, and the use of appropriate pesticides as a last resort at the right time and dose using proper application techniques.

The programme was attended by 25 farmers. Inputs like neem oil, pheromone traps, and bio-fertilisers were also distributed to all the farmers.

ATMA Tuensang: ATMA Tuensang, Noksen block, held training, demonstrations, and a Kisan Gosthi at Lokong village, Tuensang, on September 6 and 8.

During the training, resource person Mongkucholen, AO, trained the participants on the package and practices for kholar cultivation.

A demonstration was conducted on soil and water conservation measures where resource person Beso Chang, SDO (soil), demonstrated making an A-frame on a contour line, while a hands-on demonstration was conducted by Wetosangla Chang, ATM, on field preparation and sowing for pea cultivation.

Meanwhile, on September 8, a Kisan Gosthi was held in which progressive farmer I Yongkong shared his techniques for potato cultivation, and certain aspects related to potatoes were taken and discussed in a farmer-to-farmer interaction.

Following the programme, seeds of kholar, peas (GS10), and coriander were distributed.
