DIMAPUR — Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Peren conducted a Kisan Mela on Thursday at the ATMA District Fisheries and Aquatic Resources office in Jalukie, Peren.

According to a DIPR report, speaking on the occasion, Project Director of ATMA and District Fisheries Officer, C Dory Yanthan, lauded the DC, who is also the chairman of the ATMA governing board, stating that his constant guidance and cooperation ensured significant encouragement to the agri and allied departments to collaborate for a common cause.

DC Peren and chairman of the governing board, Vineet Kumar, stated in his speech that everyone is rooted in agriculture, regardless of their status in society. He emphasised that it was time to heed the voice of experts who understand how the ecological imbalance of the present scenario can be corrected by observing certain patterns in the cropping system.

Kumar said that to enhance production, there is a need for a well-planned farming system, relying on the advice of the technical expert. He also advised the farmers to share their successes and failures with the extension worker so that corrective measures could be taken.

Other highlights of the programme included the release of the ATMA Peren district magazine titled “ATMA Activities at a Glimpse” by the DC as well as the distribution of seed money amounting to INR 10,000 each to four self-help groups and four food security groups.

The technical session featured a visual demonstration on soil testing conducted with the assistance of a mobile van by the Department of Soil Conservation office, led by Rokovikho Nakhro, District Soil Conservation Officer (DSCO).

James Kikon from KVK deliberated on the significance of vermicompost as a living soil amendment, while C Dory Yanthan emphasised the importance of high-quality fingerlings. Additionally, presentations on the importance and preparation of Bijamrita, Bordeaux mixture, mushroom oyster cultivation, and neem leaf extract for controlling insect pests were delivered by the ATMA team.

The programme included the distribution of fingerlings by the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Department, organic granules, vermibags, farming tools, seeds, and implements by the Soil and Water Conservation Department and KVK.

Heads of offices and officers from agri and allied departments attended the programme. In total, more than 100 farmers from various farming backgrounds and blocks, ATMA farmer friends, farm school teachers, self-help groups, and over 20 different agri and allied departments were present.
