DIMAPUR — An awareness programme for brick kilns, sand mohals, and stone crusher units under the National Clean Air Programme was organised by the Dimapur district administration at the DC conference hall in Dimapur on Wednesday.

According to a report from DIPR, Mhalo Humtsoe, the ADC and administrator of the East Dimapur Town Council, stated in her keynote address that the awareness programme was organised to ensure improved air quality in Dimapur, with the assistance of sand mohals, brick kilns, and stone crusher units.

She noted that the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) launched the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) in January 2019 with the aim of improving air quality in 131 cities (non-attainment cities and million plus cities) across 24 states/UTs by engaging all stakeholders.

She called upon stakeholders to take responsibility for society and seek better ways to improve air quality in Dimapur. Humtsoe also informed that guidelines would be issued in a few days, which must be strictly followed.

The programme was chaired by EAC Dimapur, Imlijungla Lemtur.

Rongsenben Longkumer, junior scientific assistant at Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB), highlighted Mission LiFe, an India-led global mass movement to nudge individual and community action to protect and preserve the environment, while Yanathung Kithan, scientist ‘B’ at NPCB, shared a presentation on air pollution and regulations related to pollution industries.
