BC Roy Trophy: Nagaland stun Lakshadweep 7-0

KOHIMA — Nagaland kicked off their Junior Boys’ National Football Championship BC Roy Trophy 2024-25 (Tier 2) campaign with an emphatic 7-0 win over Lakshadweep in their first match played on Tuesday at Nurul Amin Stadium, Nagaon, Assam.

A total of 16 teams are vying for the championship that will culminate on August 12.

On the stellar performance of the Nagaland boys, head coach Khwetelhi Thopi credited God for the victory.

“I am very satisfied with the performance of the boys, today was the first match and they played exceptionally well. There are some areas where we need to improve and we will do in the next match,” the head coach said.

On their next match against Haryana, Thopi said Haryana are a strong team and so they have to come up with a good game plan.

Naphan’s four-goal haul scored in the 15th, 36th, 39th and 80th minutes helped the team to a comfortable win. His teammates Atsibu also scored a brace in the 60th and 75th minutes and the last goal came through the boots of Ayhunlo in the 85th minute.

The Nagaland squad comprise of 19 players from various districts along with four officials including team manager Azho Sophie, coach Khwetelhi Thopi, assistant coach Kechi and physio Zakie Seletsu.
