CANSSEA stages protest demanding repeal of NPS

Under the umbrella of the Confederation of All Nagaland State Services Employees’ Association (CANSSEA), government servants in Nagaland on Tuesday staged a protest outside Civil Secretariat, Kohima demanding scrapping of National Pension Scheme (NPS).

Addressing journalists at the protest, President of CANSSEA, Dr. Ilang, said that the NPS is a privatised company where employees ‘do not know where the money is going, whether they would get pension or not’.

‘Government of India has to scrap this Act and give the old pension scheme — one nation, one pension– which is the right of every employee and the right of every individual,’ he added.

“Until and unless the Central government repeals the Act, we will not stop”, he said.

The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Aunthority Act (PFRDA), 2003, is regulating the entire NPA system.

‘To scrap this Act, the state government alone cannot do it. It has to be along with the Central government,’ he added.

Therefore, CANSSEA joined the rest of the country for scrapping the PFRDA Act, he said.

Vice President of CANSSEA T Chubayanger also said that money from the accounts of employees were being “deducted” despite ‘contributing for years’.

“We want (the govt.) to roll back to a system where we know where we are, where we are going, what we will be, we need a definition”, he said, adding that was the reason for their protest.

“We want to be under the umbrella of the state government so that we can be secured”, he added.

Over 40,000 government servants from Nagaland are “affected” by the NPS, he informed.

The protest is being called by the All India Government Employees Association along with the Central Services Association.
