Central officials visit Nagaland’s first medical college site, review progress

Dimapur, Sep. 30 (EMN): The additional secretary to Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, V Hekali Zhimomi, on Friday urged the concerned authority to make Nagaland’s first medical college at Phriebagei in Kohima functional at the earliest for the welfare of future scholars.

Zhimomi visited the medical college site on September 30 to review the progress of the much-awaited institute, which is likely to be renamed Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, updated the state’s Health department.

During the review meeting with the department officials under the chairmanship of Principal Director Dr. K. Vikato Kinimi, along with Reena Hansdak, Assistant Secretary to Union Health ministry, Zhimomi lauded the department for the hard work and efforts put towards the medical college thus far.

Stating that the infrastructure, clinical set up and faculty need to be ready before the visitation of National Medical Council (NMC) team, she suggested the administrators, doctors and engineering wing to sit for a meeting and carefully strategize the action plan before the visit.

She also stressed on proper utilisation of funds and resources as well as prioritisation of funds towards works with utmost importance, in order finish the project quickly.

She went on to suggest inclusion of technical professionals during planning.

Principal Director Dr. Kinimi thanked the central officials for visiting the college site and showing their concern for the department and the state.

The Engineering Wing gave a presentation on the project background while NHP gave a status report on Schools of Nursing for up-grading from GNM to BSc nursing, said the update.
