Chakhesang Baptist Church Council urges govt. to fully implement the NLTP Act
Dimapur, March 7 (EMN): Chakhesang Baptist Church Council (CBCC) has reiterated its stand on the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, and urged the government to fully implement the Act for “the greater interest of the people of the state.”
CBCC also stated that it fully endorsed and stood in solidarity with the Nagaland Baptist Church Council representing 1708 churches.
Reminding that alcohol has destroyed the society once, CBCC in a statement on Monday stated that it will continue to do so unless “we take our stand now with a determinant political will.”
“Considering the significant success of implementing the Prohibition Acts in Gujarat and Bihar and comparing with the contentious issues of the NLTP Act, 1989, what concerns us most is the political will of the Government to implement the act in letter and spirit. Remember that the NLTP Act is a legislation which empowers the Government to act upon. Therefore, the concerned implementing agency should come out with a detailed and comprehensive strategy for full implementation of the Act. Instead of focusing on the failures of the Act, it is the Constitutional duty of the government of the day to aggressively develop appropriate mechanisms to implement the Act with courage,” it read.
It further stated that if Hindu majority states like Gujarat and Bihar can enforce the ban with satisfactory results, “the Christian majority state like Nagaland should be able to perform better with the blessings and support of our Almighty God with whom nothing is impossible”.
