KOHIMA — The Chakhesang Students Union (CSU) sealed the office of National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL), Project Management Unit (PMU) in Pfütsero, for an indefinite period.

This move follows the expiration of a 48-hour ultimatum issued on October 16 regarding the poor condition of Kohima-Jessami road (package-II) along NH 29 (previously NH 150).

In a letter addressed to the General Manager of PMU-Pfutsero, the CSU expressed disappointment at the unfulfilled demands concerning the Chakhabama-Kikruma stretch of the road.

During a site visit on October 19, CSU representatives found the maintenance and repair work to be inadequate and far below their expectations, it stated.

Accordingly, the union held an assembly on October 19 and reaffirmed its commitment to the first phase of agitation, which began with the indefinite sealing of the PMU office.

It outlined specific demands that must be met for the office to be reopened, including the clearing of all landslides and obstacles obstructing vehicular movement on the affected road stretch, immediate filling and repair of all potholes within the specified area, and the implementation of an adequate drainage system to prevent future deterioration.

Additionally, it called for the termination of the contract with Ratna Infra Projects Pvt. Ltd., as recommended by the Phek district PMU in a directive issued on June 13 this year.

The union has warned that if the demands go unmet, it will resort to further actions against both the NHIDCL and the contractor responsible for the repairs.
