Classic Club commemorates 29th foundation day
KOHIMA — The 29th foundation day commemoration of Classic Club-cum-inauguration of vertical garden at Classic Island, Kohima, was held on Monday.
Member Secretary of Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB), K Hukato Chishi, inaugurated the vertical garden, which was initiated under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) 2022-23.
The garden, implemented by the Kohima Forest Division, will be maintained by the Class Club, Kohima.
Speaking during the foundation programme held at 2K Hotel, Chishi pointed out that Kohima and Dimapur are above the permissible limit in terms of air quality, as per the analysis done by the NPCB.
Pointing out that Nagaland does not have big industries, he said the only factor contributing to the air pollution in Nagaland is dust and emission from vehicles.
If collective efforts are made by the people, it is possible to achieve air quality within permissible limits, he said.
Life member of the club and former Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Dr. Chotisuh Sazo, said that while celebrating the achievements of the club, the members should also learn from their mistakes.
“It (foundation day) is about honouring our past, celebrating our present, and embracing our future,” he said.
Many have retired from active government service but it does not mean they have retired from the life process, Sazo said and added that it is never too late to do good things and one can start afresh in many ways.
