Website back on track after traffic affects server performance

Dimapur, April 21 (EMN) : No sooner had Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio announce financial assistance for citizens stranded outside Nagaland, the website hosting the registration had to change servers as high traffic slowed it down on Tuesday.

The website is now working, updates on the evening of April 21 informed.

The chief minister of Nagaland had announced the financial assistance in a tweet with a creative set of different schemes.

“Special package for distressed/stranded citizens outside #Nagaland,” it read. The tweet was made at 6:53 pm IST and with it the link to the site, iamstranded.nagaland.gov.in, was also mentioned.

Previously, within an hour the website had become erratic, and many users could not reach the site. Reports of the unavailability of the site had begun pouring in as comments on social media.

It was only after three hours later that the Instagram page of myGOV Nagaland disclosed the reason.

‘https://iamstranded.nagaland.gov.in is the link. It is reported that the server is slow because of the overwhelming response. Please be patient, while we try to improve our services,’ the handle had commented in the page.

A reliable source working under the department of Information Technology and Communications (DITC) also informed on Tuesday that the website had to be shifted to a different server.

The website was created a few days ago. It also was announced by the chief minister. However, Monday’s announcement about the assistance resulted in an overwhelming response that the server had to be changed.

According to another source in the DITC, the traffic right after the announcement was “maximum,” which had affected the website’s performance. This compelled the authorities to shift to a new “database server.”

The financial package that the chief minister announced includes INR 3000 for stranded students, INR 4000 for workers and INR 20, 000 for patients from Nagaland stranded outside the state.

The advisor to the DITC Mmhonlumo Kikon had offered updates about the website on Tuesday afternoon:

‘Due to the overwhelming response with over 70,000 hits since yesterday, the iamstranded.nagaland.gov.in portal is facing a slack. However, the capacity of the servers are being enhanced with allocation of higher system resources and bandwidth,’ Kikon stated on Tuesday evening.

‘Please bear with us while we do our best to serve you,’ he stated.
