DIMAPUR — The Chamber of Nagaland Commerce and Industries (CNCCI) has issued a statement clarifying its position on the Dimapur Municipal Council’s (DMC) recent statement regarding consultation with external organisations on matters related to decision-making on business activities.

In a press release issued on Friday, the CNCCI referred to the DMC’s claim that “as statutory entities with legislative and executive powers, ULBs are not obligated to consult with external organisations on such matters.”

“The CNCCI makes it clear to the DMC and other ULBs in Nagaland that there is a government standing order which states that ‘the Administrator of all urban local bodies will take step for including the representative from business community of their cities/towns in their advisory committee for taking decisions in respect to various business related activities’ (Govt. Order no. CON-6/LOR-II/2006 (Vol-I) Dated Sept. 2021) and therefore, it is incumbent on the ULBs to take the business community on board in matters pertaining to businesses and non-compliance will amount to contempt of government and cause embarrassment to the state government”, the press release stated.

Regarding concerns raised by the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industries (DCCI) about DMC’s collection and taxation practices, the CNCCI urged the DCCI to urgently present its grievances to the DMC and ensure that business communities are protected and not burdened beyond what is mandated in Municipal Act and government guidelines.
