Computer-based exams increasing transparency — Union minister Singh

DIMAPUR — Union Minister of State for Education and External Affairs Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, on Monday said that the introduction of computer-based examinations in lieu of paper-based exams has helped in reducing the time taken for selection process apart from increasing transparency.

The union minister also asserted that abolition of requirements for interviews for Group B, non-gazetted and lower posts, has led to more transparency

Singh was addressing the eight tranche of Rozgar Mela held at Assam Rifles Training Centre and School, Shukhovi, in Chümoukedima district.

The event was organised pan India at 45 locations simultaneously.

During the eight tranche of Rozgar Mela, 134 individuals from Nagaland were given appointments letters, out of which 84 were selected to join Assam rifles, 24 to join Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), 21 to join Border Security Force (BSF), five for Shashtra Seema Bal (SSB) and two for Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).

Singh encouraged the new appointees by saying that there is hardly any career more satisfying and fulfilling than public service and that serving fellow citizens and countrymen is one of the highest honours.

He asserted that Rozgar melas is one of the hallmarks of the youth-centric administrative and governance reforms, being initiated under the guidance of the Prime Minister, and that it stands apart as a major and bold initiative to provide government jobs to youth in a transparent manner.

Sharing that introduction of regional languages in SSC exams for various posts is leading to increased participation of youth for government jobs, the Union minister informed that the Centre aims to continuously train and re-train government servants to keep them abreast with latest developments, good practices and experiences.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributed more than 51,000 appointment letters to newly inducted recruits via video conferencing.

Through the Rozgar Mela event, Ministry of Home Affairs is recruiting personnel in various central armed police forces (CAPFs) such as Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Shashtra Seema Bal (SSB), Assam Rifles, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Narcotics control Bureau (NCB) as well as Delhi Police. 

The recruits, selected from across the country, will be joining the various positions such as constable (general duty), sub-inspector (general duty) and non–general duty cadre posts in various organisations under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The prime minister emphasised the responsibility that comes with the selection in defence or security and police forces and said that the government has been very serious about the needs of the forces.

Highlighting the responsibilities of the new recruits in ensuring the development of the nation, Modi said that a secure environment by the rule of law expedites the pace of development.

Throwing light on the expansion of the automobile and the auto components industry, he informed that both the industries are worth more than INR 12 lakh crore and expected to grow further in the years to come.

He underlined that many more youths will be required by the automobile industry to maintain this growth rate, thereby creating employment opportunities in the nation.

He also touched upon the food processing industry, which was worth approximtely INR 26 lakh crore last year, and stated that it is bound to rise to INR 35 lakh crore in the next three and a half years. “With expansion comes increased employment opportunities,” he added.
