DC Longleng stresses collective efforts against drug menace
DIMAPUR — The Phom Baptist Christian Association (PBCA) held the dedication programme of the Serenity Home Rehabilitation/Detox Centre, located behind the Yingli College playground, on September 8.
According to a DIPR report, in his remarks on the occasion, DC Longleng Dharm Raj talked about the prevalence of drug use in Longleng and Nagaland as a whole. He emphasised the need for collective responsibility and collaborative efforts to address the issue.
He spoke of the commitment of the administrative team to support creative measures to combat the drug threat in the region and highlighted the importance of providing recreational facilities to prevent stress-related issues among the youth.
SP Longleng, Yanger Jamir, highlighted the financial contribution of Nagaland to churches and organisations in lieu of income tax due to Article 371 (A).
To effectively combat drug-related issues, he underscored the importance of collective action and trust-building among the community, police, NGOs, and civil societies. He also mentioned the significance of focusing on drug supply sources.
Abou Mere, the director of Kripa Foundation, Kohima, talked about the significance of faith, science, and experience in addressing substance abuse. He called for government support in establishing recreational centres to alleviate stress among the youth and urged various departments as well as the district administration to provide government funds, medicines, and support for the detox centre.
Dr. TemsuImti, principal of Yingli College, Dr. Lipok, medical officer at District Hospital Longleng, chairman of Bhumnyu Village, presidents of 11 wards in Longleng Town Council, president of Phomla Hoichem, president of Phom People’s Council, and president of Phom Students’ Conference also delivered brief speeches.
The programme was led by Rev. H Baeu, president of PBCA, who offered the dedicatory prayer. It was chaired by S Phakmei Phom, youth secretary of LTBC, and the benediction was delivered by Chingthai, pastor of Police Baptist Church.
