Department of soil and water conservation bid farewell to outgoing directors

Dimapur, Aug. 31 (EMN): The department of Soil and Water Conservation bade farewell to its outgoing director, Viliehu Nguzhü, on Monday at the directorate’s conference hall in Kohima.

According to a DIPR update, assistant joint director Hovuto Zhimomi on behalf of the department acknowledged that Nguzhü was a man of integrity who was ‘approachable by all rank and file of the department’ and that his humility and sincerity were ‘appreciable virtues to be looked upon by all.’

Lauding the outgoing director, minister for Soil and Water Conservation, Geology and Mining V Kashiho Sangtam said that Nguzhü was a man with ‘positive attitude, true leader and good officer.’ He encouraged him to continue serving the society with the same zeal and enthusiasm.

While appreciating Nguzhü, joint secretary to the government of Nagaland, Tsobahü Rhakho, said that the department has been enriched with his guidance and leadership during his directorship.

The incoming director, K Zhekheto Awomi praised Nguzhü that he has set an exemplary and a high benchmark for the department. ‘He had conducted himself in an impeccable manner and upheld the working ethics with much prudence,’ Awomi added.

Quoting Isaac Newton: “If I have seen further, it is by standing upon the shoulders of the giants,” he encouraged the department to work with cohesiveness and unity and to shake off any distrust, if any, within the department.

The outgoing director in his speech thanked God for the successful completion of his service. He also thanked the minister, commissioner and secretary and departmental staff for rendering full support and co-operation during his service. He also exhorted that the department can shine if only concerted effort is made by every individual selflessly.

Meanwhile, Directorate of Economics and Statistics also bade adieu to its director Y Sacheo Ovung, who retired on completion of 35 years of government service.

The incoming director, R Kronu, described Ovung as a mentor and teacher while being the longest serving director of the department for more than eight years.

After joining as language translator in the Education department in 1985, he also served as statistician in PWD in 1988, became assistant director of Economic and Statistics Department in 1992 and later headed the department since 2009, Kronu said.

Describing him as a cool and broad-minded gentleman with immense patience, Kronu wished him prosperity, happiness and a healthy retired life.

Special secretary Kevileno Angami congratulated Ovung for the successful completion of his innings in good health while maintaining that he was a ‘very positive, enthusiastic and receptive director.’

Remarking that the Economics and Statistics is an unknown department, she said the role it plays is very critical as it brings out data for factual planning and policy making. She lauded Ovung for being instrumental in bringing several changes including reformation in cadre structure.

The outgoing director in his speech appreciated the support and co-operation of the officers and staff of the department for the team spirit. Maintaining that there is no substitute to hard work, he encouraged the young officers and staff to have the enthusiasm to learn and ensure strengthening the statisticians by bringing out accurate data for better planning and policy making at different levels. Ovung also assured of his co-operation towards the department even after his retirement.
