Dimapur, the bustling commercial hub of Nagaland, continues to face mounting traffic challenges that disrupt daily life and hinder progress. At the outset, I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the Dimapur traffic police and their counterparts across Nagaland for their relentless dedication to maintaining order and ensuring public convenience.

Their tireless efforts, despite numerous challenges, deserve our gratitude and recognition.

However, the current traffic situation has been exacerbated by ongoing infrastructure projects, particularly the renovation of the old over bridge. While such developments are crucial for long-term progress, they have inadvertently led to increased congestion. This, combined with random driving behaviour and a lack of adherence to basic traffic etiquette, has turned Dimapur’s roads into a daily struggle for commuters.

To address this pressing issue, I propose a practical and effective measure: the implementation of the odd-even vehicle number policy. This strategy, which was successfully employed during the lockdown years, demonstrated its potential to reduce traffic congestion and improve road conditions.

The odd-even system mandates that vehicles with registration numbers ending in odd digits operate on specific days, while those with even numbers operate on alternate days. If implemented uniformly across all types of vehicles, including two-wheelers, four-wheelers, and autorickshaws, this policy could bring several immediate benefits:

It will Reduced Traffic Volume by effectively halving the number of vehicles on the road, this system can significantly ease congestion.

While the odd-even rule is a feasible short-term solution, it should be part of a broader strategy to improve Dimapur’s traffic infrastructure and management. Measures such as constructing alternative routes, developing proper parking spaces, and promoting responsible driving habits are essential for sustainable progress.

I urge the concern authority to take this matter seriously and explore innovative solutions to address Dimapur’s traffic woes. By acting decisively and collaboratively, we can transform Dimapur into a city that is not only vibrant but also commuter-friendly.
