District Legal Service Authority organises activities across the state
Dimapur, Oct. 13 (EMN): The Dimapur District Legal Service Authority (DDLSA) in collaboration with ICFAI University Nagaland organised a webinar on legal awareness on October 8. Address on behalf of ICFAI University was delivered by Rupanka Bhuyan, academic coordinator.
Somet C Chang, CJM and secretary DDLSA spoke on the topic “Legal Services and its role”. She stated that Legal Services Act 1987 was enacted for providing free legal aid and legal awareness. She also stated about the category of people entitled for free legal aid and the role played by legal services authority, an update from DDLSA stated on Tuesday.
Sentimenla, panel lawyer, spoke on the topic “Basic legal rights”. She spoke about the rights of women, the right to file an FIR and various other topics explaining about an individual’s right.
Sonile Seb, retainer lawyer, DDLSA spoke on the topic “Consumer Protection Act 2019”. She stated that the basic aim of the CPA 2019 is to save the rights of the consumer by establishing authorities for timely and effective administration of consumer disputes. She also enlightened the participants about the salient features of the CPA 2019, it stated.
Y Longkumer, principal district and sessions judge and chairperson, DDLSA while summing up the webinar laid emphasis on certain topics like the Domestic Violence Act, consumer’s right, cyber law, employees right, basic legal rights and on the civil and criminal laws. The webinar was attended by the panel lawyers, plvs of DDLSA and the students, faculty and staff of the ICFAI University.
Mon DSLA on October 12 organised an essay competition on the topic “Fundamental Duties”. First position was awarded to Ngepmei H Konyak (Green Valley High School), second and third place were awarded to Y Hinglong Konyak (Green Valley High School) and Tingpon Konyak (Sacred Heart School) respectively. Inalo Zhimomi, NJS (district and session judge cum chairman DLSA Mon) handed over cash prizes to the awardees.
Peren DLSA celebrated the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2 in collaboration with the district administration. It added that on behalf of Peren DLSA, Asungbe retainer lawyer spoke on women rights and protection of girl child.
On October 12, Peren DLSA also distributed 20kgs of rice to 30 beneficiaries at Jalukie-B village. Asungbe highlighted the working of Peren DLSA and handed over the commodities.
Meanwhile, Wokha DLSA identified construction workers and helped them in preparation of documents, applications by Adv. Renbonthung Tsanglao panel lawyer WDLSA, Adv.Shanchobeni P Lotha district project assistant ,Thungbeni Kikon case worker OSC Wokha and forwarded by Khrievono Seletsu JMFC/ Secretary WDLSA to get registered under Nagaland building and other construction workers’ scheme, it informed.
