DLSC, MCMC constituted in Kohima for Lok Sabha election

DIMAPUR — The deputy commissioner (DC) and district election officer (DEO) of Kohima have announced the formation of a district-level standing committee (DLSC) for the model code of conduct (MCC) in preparation for the upcoming general election to the 18th Lok Sabha.

The DLSC consists of the DC and DEO Kohima as convener and members comprising the superintendent of police, Kohima, the extra assistant commissioner (estt.) and nodal officer (MCC), all assistant returning officers (AROs) in the Kohima district, the administrator of Kohima Municipal Council, the EEM nodal officer, the presidents and general secretaries of BJP, DCC, NPP, NDPP, NPF, the president of the Angami Public Organisation, the president of the Angami Miapfu Mechu Krotho, the president of the Angami Youth Organisation, and the assistant election officer.

According to a DIPR report, the notification stated that the committee would meet on an as-needed basis to discuss issues related to the free, fair, and peaceful conduct of elections.

It stated that the committee will ensure that all political parties, contesting candidates, government departments, and the general public strictly adhere to the MCC from the day the commission announces the election until the election process is completed.

Formation of MCMC

Furthermore, in connection with the upcoming Lok Sabha election, the DC and DEO of Kohima issued a separate notification on the formation of the media certification and monitoring committee (MCMC).

The committee is chaired by the DC and DEO of Kohima, and it is made up of AROs from all Assembly Segments in the Kohima District, as well as Asonuo, IIS, news editor AIR Kohima, and DPRO Kohima.

The MCMC will be responsible for certifying advertisements and monitoring both print and electronic media, including cable networks, in Kohima district. It will also be tasked with recording all advertisements, paid news, and election-related news of contesting candidates and political parties, either on CD/DVD or as photocopies.
