DPDB Dimapur recommends upgrading of Niuland to full-fledged district

Dimapur, July 6 (EMN): The Dimapur District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) members have ‘approved and recommended the proposal to approach the higher authority for upgrading Niuland ADC sub-division to a full-fledged district’.

The decision was taken by the house during the DPDB meeting held on Tuesday in the conference hall of DC Dimapur under the chairmanship of Zhaleo Rio, Advisor of Sericulture, Excise and Minority Affairs, who is also the chairman of DPDB Dimapur.

An update from DPRO Dimapur informed that ‘PHED minister Jacob Zhimomi, who brought up the proposal for concurrence of the Board members, observed that Niuland which falls under the periphery of Dimapur district has the potential for fast economic development and a very promising area’.

Advisor Tovihito also shared that it was very apt for upgrading Niuland to a district, adding that ‘it fulfils all requirements being one of the oldest sub-divisions created in 1987’.

Highlighting on the issue, ADC Niuland, Athrila informed the house that there are 109 villages under Niuland sub-division at present with four administrative circles and covers an area of 454 sq km.

She added that Niuland is situated in a strategic location geographically, sharing borders with two major towns of Assam and have connectivity with important districts of Nagaland including the state capital, updated DPRO Dimapur.

It was informed that the Board also approved the proposal to set up Norman Putsure College at Ward 10 Chümoukedima.

Covid situation in Dimapur

The CMO Dimapur gave an update on Covid-19 situation for Dimapur district during the meeting, according to the update.

The official informed that currently there are 472 beds in the district with 35 positive cases being admitted in the hospital, and 267 under home isolation. ‘Currently, there are four inmates at the CCC located at New DC’s complex while the district recorded 266 total deaths (186 males and 80 females) till date,’ the CMO added.

The deputy commissioner of Dimapur, Rajesh Soundararajan, urged the public to strictly adhere to all Covid behaviours and not to be complacent although the positivity rate of the district showed a declining trend.

With regard to vaccination, he informed that Dimapur district has achieved the highest coverage of vaccination in the state and the target is 100% immunisation.

The DPDB chairman also called upon the members to be torchbearers in following Covid SOP and also encouraged them to actively participate during DPDB meetings.
