KOHIMA — Advisor of School Education and SCERT, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, on Saturday launched the implementation of Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) curriculum in all government schools starting from 2024.

The advisor made this announcement during the valedictory programme of ECCE and foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) of district master trainers capacity building programme held at Mount Tabor Retreat Centre in Kohima. The programme was organised by Samagra Shiksha and SCERT, Nagaland, which began on February 27.

Speaking at the function, Dr. Yhome appreciated the team who developed the ECCE curriculum and stated that it was also acknowledged by the 18th National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) convention to be one of the first in the country.

Dr. Yhome underscored the importance of convergence of various government departments and opined the need for a new delimitation of administrative zones in the state. He pointed out that School Education department has 46 administrative blocks.

He added that the School Education is trying to streamline its training through NECTAR, Samargra Shiksha, SCERT and the School Education department. He challenged the participants to collectively work together and give their best adding that education is the only means to liberate the people.

Observing that rural poverty is also linked with government schools’ inability to put up proper teachers in the schools, he stated that the department is trying to rationalise things despite shortage of man power in the department.

The advisor also stressed the need to redefine professional growth and incentivise career and equal dignity among the teachers especially among the primary teachers. He further advised the teachers to be innovative as they deal with the community and public.

Meanwhile, the summary of the training was presented by Kelhikha Kenye, deputy mission director of Samagra Shiksha Nagaland. He informed that 97 participants took part in the district master trainers capacity-building programme.

He informed that resource persons including 10 from SCERT Nagaland, three from ChangeInkk Foundation from New Delhi and professor Rima Kaur from School of Continuing Education and University Resource Centre (SCE-URC), Azim Pemji University, trained the participants.
