KOHIMA — Dziesekhrienuo Keretsü from Nagaland has been nominated as a member of the National Road Safety Council under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway (MoRTH). She is the only female among the 11 ‘non-official co-opted members’ nominated by the MoRTH for this position.

The MoRTH (road safety cell), in a notification dated August 7 published in the official gazette of the Government of India, made the announcement.

Hailing from Kohima village, Keretsü will be a part of the national road safety council to guide and prepare all aspects of road safety in the country. She is expected to represent Nagaland and the Northeastern region in the council in taking up the issues of road safety and road transport at the national level.

It was learned that the roles of the members also included advising on all matters pertaining to the planning and coordination of policies and standards of safety in the road transport sector. This involves formulating and recommending road safety programs for implementation by state road safety organisations, as well as other state agencies in charge of road transportation.

Furthermore, the members are responsible for suggesting areas for research and development to improve safety aspects in the road transport sector, which includes maintaining statistics of road accidents and conducting their analysis. Additionally, their role encompasses overseeing and monitoring the road safety measures undertaken by states and union territories at a central level.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister, Y Patton, congratulated her on being nominated to the National Road Safety Council and stated that ‘it is a very proud moment for Naga women in particular and Nagas in general.’
