Educational institutes hold freshers’ meet

DIMAPUR — Educational institutes in Dimapur and Chümoukedima held their annual freshers’ events, welcoming new students and celebrating achievements.

PVHSS: Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School (PVHSS) in Dimapur held its annual freshers’ meet at the school auditorium on Saturday.

In his address, the principal of PVHSS, Monoj Bhattacharjee, provided guidance to the freshers for their all-round development. He also urged all the students to abstain from narcotic substances, which affect the physical, mental, and spiritual health of a person, an update stated.

The chairman of the school, Swami Chinmayanandaji Maharaj, welcomed all the newcomers and bestowed his blessings.

During the event, HSLC and HSSLC toppers, as well as state subject toppers for 2024 under the Nagaland Board of School Education, were felicitated with the ‘Pranab Jyoti Award.’

On the occasion, students from various communities participated in events dressed in their respective traditional attires.

Kepenchu Seb and Edaule Haiding were declared Mr. and Miss Freshers’ 2024, respectively.

Salesian College: The Salesian College of Higher Education, Dimapur, also held its annual Freshers’ Day celebration on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, principal Fr. Dr. Paul Punii extended a warm welcome to the freshers and introduced the new faculty members, highlighting the addition of Fr. Dr. Elow Samuel as the new director.

Punii exhorted the council members to lead with integrity and foster cooperation among the student body. He also emphasised the importance of positive leadership supported by spiritual strength, encouraging the new student council to serve the institution with humility.

During the event, “Hundred Stories” by Fr. Tom Kartik, the former director of the college, was also released.

Meanwhile, the Mr. and Miss Freshers competition featured three rounds: traditional, formal, and casual. Liziba Santam and Sumpi from the Political Science department were crowned Mr. and Miss Freshers 2024.

Mount Mary College: Mount Mary College (MCC), Chümoukedima, held its 12th freshers day on July 5 on the theme ‘Unleash your potential’ at Yashipokla Memorial Auditorium.

Dr. C Teeya Imsong, managing director of MMC, exhorted the students and encouraged them to unleash their inherent potentials, an update from the college stated.

He also introduced the Super Six programme, a special mentoring project for the freshers, who would go through a vigorous mentorship process until they graduate.

M Ongmang Lakba and N Litina Sumi won the Mr. and Miss Freshers titles for 2024.
