DIMAPUR— The Nagaland Foothills Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) has once again appealed to the government of Nagaland to endorse the “Foothills Road Project” to the North Eastern Council (NEC) on priority during this financial year, in accordance with the resolution adopted by the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) in September last year.

The mother of all developments is road, said the committee, while maintaining that Nagaland lags behind other states in many areas due to poor connectivity.

Unlike other roads that are meant for transportations and communication, the stretch from Khelma to Tizit is enveloped with resources, which will make the foothills road (Trans-Nagaland Expressway) the gateway for all round developments and economic growth for the Nagas, it stated.

Maintaining that the resolution adopted on the foothills road by the NLA on September 22, 2022 was appreciated and welcomed by everyone, the NFHRCC said it is historic as all the 60 legislators had voiced the need to construct the road in unison and unequivocally accepted by the Naga public.

‘Therefore, the historic resolution should be respected, honoured, and the same should be implemented both in letter and spirit. So that the project will not miss the bus during this financial year and in the event of the same remaining unattained (unfulfilled) it will be a very costly affair, as it will amount to anti-development, anti-youth, anti-educated unemployment and anti-people, and finally it will be an act of betrayal of Naga people,’ read the press release.

It may be mentioned that a resolution was passed during a joint meeting of stakeholders, including NFHRCC, PWD (Road and Bridges) officials, foothill contractor firms, and Dimapur-based tribal hohos, held in May this year, to request the state government to put the construction of foothill road) on “priority list” this financial year and through North Eastern Council (NEC) funding.
