Federating bodies of ENPO reaffirm abstention from Lok Sabha election
DIMAPUR — The federating bodies of the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) have reaffirmed and extended their continuous support to the ‘public emergency’ in the eastern areas and to abstain from the electoral process, specifically the Lok Sabha election, which is scheduled to be conducted in the state on April 19.
Reiterating the reason for abstaining from the electoral process, the federating bodies, which include tribal apex bodies, student bodies and women organisations, recalled the purported assurance made by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Dec.7 2023, to settle the creation of Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT).
Besides failing to fulfil this assurance, the election Model Code of Conduct was declared and there was no breakthrough from the Centre on the draft of Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) on FNT which was sent through the state government by the MHA, it said. In this scenario, it said that their stand and commitment to the Chenmoho Resolution of February 23, 2024 to abstain from electoral process continues to be firm.
The federating bodies also cautioned that any individual or group violating the resolution will face action as decided by the federating bodies.
