Dimapur, March 13 (EMN): Food Safety Mokokchung zone under the chief medical officer (CMO) establishment, in coordination with the Zunheboto district administration and CMO Zunheboto, conducted a one-day awareness camp on food safety at the ADC office in Akuluto town on March 11.
An update from the Mokokchung CMO office stated that the welcome address was delivered by Sukumlo Yanthan, food safety officer, while the EAC of Akuluto,
Orenthung Kikon, spoke on the importance of food safety and encouraged the food business operators (FBO) to mandatorily obtain FSSAI registration, which could be beneficial for their business.
Vikheho Achumi, vice chairman of Akuluto ad-hoc town council, has thanked the department for organising the awareness camp.
Report stated that C Merenlemba Ao, designated officer (food safety), gave a short talk on Food Safety and Standard Authority Act 2011 (FSSAI) and sensitised the FBO on the correct labeling of food products, various logos associated such as fortified, organic, vegetarian, non-vegetarian food, BIS, AGMARK etc.
He also spoke about maintaining hygiene and sanitation of premises and personal hygiene of food handlers. He further emphasised on gradual shift towards self-compliance through the food safety management system and also for the successful implementation of FSSAI Act.
Report further stated that spot registration for the FBO and distribution of IEC materials were carried out after the programme.
