Free boxing coaching camp underway in Mokokchung
DIMAPUR— A ten-day free intensive boxing coaching camp for young children (age 5 to 16 years) got underway at the Multipurpose Sports Complex in Mokokchung on the theme ‘The future of boxing is in the small gloves.’ The coaching camp is being organised by the Boxing Association Mokokchung (BAM), which is affiliated to Nagaland Amateur Boxing Association (NABA).
An update from BAM stated that a total of 103 of aspiring pugilists including 75 boys and 28 girls have registered for the camp. As many could not register on the first day, the BAM has decided to relax the registration period till July 20 as requested by the parents.
“The turnout is overwhelming, this is more than we expected and we are thankful to the parents and the schools for encouraging the children to attend the camp,” said Bendangtemsu Ozukum, BAM general secretary.
BAM Advisor, M Supong Longkumer, while exhorting the youngsters, encouraged them to be disciplined and punctual during the whole camp. He also advised them to abstain from harmful substances and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Moreover, he reminded them to always keep their trust in God so that they might achieve great things in life. He exuded confidence that the young aspiring boxers would excel at the state, national and international levels and bring laurels in the years to come.
MTBA youth promoter, Imtimongba, has invoked God’s guidance and blessings for the whole camp.
The boxing camp is being coached by Bendangakum, Mongsensari Longkumer, Nokingyanger Aier, Akum Imchen and Tongpangnokcha Longkumer. A strong team of technical staff is also assisting the coaches, the report stated.
