Gorkha community celebrates Bhanu Jayanti

Dimapur, July 14 (EMN): The Gorkha community in Kohima and Dimapur celebrated the 208th birth anniversary of Adikavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya on July 13 by organising various cultural and literary activities.

In Kohima, the event was organised by Gorkha Sahitya Kala Sanstha Kohima (GSKSK) at Gorkha Public Panchayat Kohima (GPPK) hall, wherein the

GPPK president, Santu Thapa, called upon the gathering to take Nepali language forward, make it richer and also preserve the rich culture.

He also wished that the occasion would bring peace, prosperity, progress and strengthen the bond of relationship among the Nepali speaking community, an update from the president of Gorkha Youth Association, Kohima, Narayan Bahadur stated.

GSKSK literary secretary, Sankar Rai, shared the brief life sketch of poet Bhanu Bhakta Acharya, a Nepali writer, poet, and translator, widely regarded as the first writer in the Nepali language. According to him, Acharya was the one who translated the great epic Ramayana from Sanskrit to Nepali for the first time.

The occasion was marked with felicitation to gold medalist for excellence in mechanical engineer, Kapil Thapa, as well as art and poem competitions conducted by GSKSK and a 10-day hands-on training on computer and library for children by GPPPK.

Cultural songs and dances and poem recitations by various clubs and organisations enthralled the gathering.

In a related programme, Chümoukedima Gorkha Union (CGU) and Chümoukedima Gorkha Youth (CGY) observed the 208th birth anniversary of Adikavi Bhanubhakta Acharya at Chümoukedima Town Hall on July 13.

The programme was marked by felicitation to meritorious Gorkha students of Chümoukedima in the HSLC and HSSLC examinations and graduate levels.

Display of traditional items and presentation by Gorkha bands from Chümoukedima including Yatra Band, Sanskriti Band, Itihas Band and Six Strings marked the programme.
