Gorkha community in Kohima, Dimapur celebrate Bhanu Jayanti
DIMAPUR — The Gorkha/Nepali community of Kohima celebrated the 210th Bhanu Jayanti, organised by the Gorkha Sahitya Kala Sanstha Kohima (GSKSK), at GPPK Hall, Chandmari, Kohima, on July 13.
Attending the occasion as the special guest, Sanjay Rai, Additional Director of the Sericulture Department, Nagaland, recalled Acharya’s efforts in popularising the Nepali language and uniting the different Nepali communities, according to a press release.
He called upon everyone to follow Acharya’s example and contribute to the preservation of Nepali tradition and culture. He also encouraged people to uphold the Nepali language by discouraging the use of other languages at home or within the community to refine themselves.

Advocate Priyadarshani Rana, a former candidate in the ULB election in Kohima, attended the occasion as the guest of honour and addressed the gathering.
The occasion also included the presentation of the Sudha Das Academic Excellence Award 2024 for the top female Gorkha/Nepali student achiever. The award was given to Trishna Chettri of Vikesel’s Vision School, Kohima, for achieving 85.83% in the HSLC exam 2024.
Nagaland Gorkha Association President Robin Pradhan provided a brief on the award, while the special guest presented the cash award of INR 50,000 along with a plaque.
GSUD: Gorkha Students’ Union Dimapur (GSUD), in collaboration with Gorkha Youth Club Dimapur (GYCD), also celebrated Bhanu Jayanti and held a felicitation programme at Christian Hr. Sec. School Hall in Dimapur.
Speaking on the occasion, Suraj Rai, vice president of Nagaland Gorkha Association, highlighted the significance of Adi Kavi Acharya Bhanu Bhakta Acharya’s contributions.
It was followed by the felicitation of successful HSLC and HSSLC students, and a cultural session.
