Nagaland witnesses highest single-day spike; drags Covid-19 tally to 280

Dimapur, June 22 (EMN): Nagaland recorded the highest single-day spike as 69 returnees tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday, taking the total number to 280 in the state.
“Out of 275 samples tested, 69 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported. 65 patients from Peren QC, three from Dimapur QC and one from Zunheboto QC,” the minister for Health and Family Welfare, S Pangnyu Phom, tweeted.
Health authorities in Nagaland have declared 141 patients as recovered so far. As per the Health department’s update, there are 139 active cases and the recovery rate is at 50%. As of June 22, Peren has 71 active cases, followed by Mon with 23; Kohima with 21; Dimapur with 19; Tuensang with three; and Phek and Zunheboto with one active case respectively.
According to Home Commissioner Abhijit Sinha, all the 139 active cases are asymptomatic.
In his daily briefing, Sinha informed that 6768 persons were presently under facility quarantine in Nagaland.
“As per the distribution of the 280 cases by age, there are four cases between 0-17 years, 269 cases between 18-44 years, five cases between 45-64 years and two cases between 65-74 years. As per the distribution of gender, there are 195 males and 85 females.
“As of today (June 22) at 4 pm, a total of 9,665 samples have been sent for testing. Results of 8,158 samples have been received and 1507 samples are awaited. Out of the 9,665 samples, 6833 samples have been received at the BSL-3 lab at the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima, till today and a total of 5613 samples have been tested and out of which 221 samples have tested positive,” he said.
HPC meeting
The home commissioner informed that the high powered committee (HPC) on Covid-19 held its meeting under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Monday.
The meeting was attended by the co-chairman, deputy chief minister; minister for Agriculture and Co-operation; minister for Higher and Technical Education and Tribal Affairs; minister for Planning and Co-ordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs; and Advisor for Information Technology, Science and Technology and Non Renewable Energy.
“The high powered committee reviewed the overall Covid-19 situation in the state and it received briefings from the Health department and the Home department,” he informed.
