The Nagaland state branch of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP) celebrated ‘Breastfeeding Week’ on August 6 at Zion Hospital, Dimapur.
DIMAPUR — The Nagaland state branch of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP) celebrated ‘Breastfeeding Week’ on August 6 at Zion Hospital, Dimapur, on the theme “Let’s breastfeed and work, work!”
To mark the occasion, IAP has conducted a breastfeeding quiz competition for the nurses, which was participated by nurses from six different hospitals.
An update from IAP Nagaland stated that CIHSR nurses won the quiz competition.
The quiz competition was conducted by Dr. Temjen, Dr. Wonashi and Dr. Deepak. It added that Dr. Apong from Nikos Hospital and Dr. Sulanthung from CIHSR attended the programme.
It stated Dr. Bendanginla, pediatrician consultant at Eden Hospital, spoke about the physiology and benefits of breastfeeding.
Dr. Akumtoshi, president of IAP Nagaland, has emphasised the need for special breastfeeding stations or rooms in public places and offices so that mothers could breastfeed in privacy.
He has lauded the Assam government for opening a breastfeeding room in Guwahati and Kamakhya railway stations recently and expressed hope that Nagaland would follow suit.
He further appealed to the public to be aware of the benefits of breastfeeding and to exclusively breastfeed infants till six months of age and continue till two years of age.
