Nagaland chapter of the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) conducted the first ever nationwide ‘Khana Khazana- My food heritage,’ a poster and essay writing competition for school children from classes 7 to 9 at Don Bosco Institute for Leadership Development (DBILD), Riverbelt Colony, on Friday.
An update from INTACH informed that the competitions were organised to create awareness on India’s rich culinary traditions and draw attention to the impact of fast food culture on heritage food traditions.
It stated that the special invitee, Joel Basumatari, one of Nagaland’s stalwart in the food industry and founding member of Nagaland Slow Food Movement and general secretary of NE Chef’s Association, has advised to prevent disappearance of local food but to counteract the rise of fast life and combat people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat.
The competitions saw the participation of nine schools namely Christian Higher Secondary School, Bethesda Higher Secondary School, Ram Janaki Higher Secondary School, SD Jain Higher Secondary, Cornerstone Higher Secondary School, El-Shaddai Academy, Holy Cross School, Delhi Public School and The Maple Tree School.
It informed that the posters and essays written at the venue would be sent to INTACH headquarters in New Delhi. It added that a panel of judges would select 100 awardees and 10 national winners from the thousands of entries submitted from across the country.
