Internship training for students concludes at Tesophenyu

Trainees of the internship training programme and resource persons after the valedictory function at Tesophenyu on Thursday.

Dimapur, Nov. 5 (EMN): A 15-day internship training programme for the B.Sc (Honours) Horticulture and B.Sc (Honours) Agriculture under Sam Higginbotom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHUATS), Allahabad in UP was conducted from October 22 to November 5 by Krishi  Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kohima at Tesophenyu.

A valedictory programme was conducted on November 5, wherein Dr. Ruokuovilie Mezatsu, senior scientist and KVK Kohima head, encouraged the trainees to move out of the box and explore the vast agriculture potential which needs to be tapped. While urging the participants to inculcate a competitive spirit, he also stressed on the scope of becoming an agripreneur in shaping the future of agriculture.

Shedevikho Kuotsu, a student trainee, shared his experiences and technologies he acquired from the whole training programme, while Longma Yanger, ACTO (Agri. Ext), gave an overall assessment of the training programme, an update from KVK stated.

The course director and ACTO (Horticulture), Khekali Sema made the concluding remarks and the programme was chaired by K Michael Pienyu, ACTO (plant protection).

During the 15-day internship training programme, the trainees got the opportunity to learn different topics such as methods and techniques of conducting a survey, use of ICT in agriculture, video clip making, mushroom rearing and production techniques, concept and management of nutritional gardens, production and management of winter vegetables crops, importance of soil health, techniques of soil sample collection and soil analysis using Mridaparikshad soil testing kits, integrated pest management (IPM) on fruits and vegetables, demonstration of farm machineries, integrated farming system (IFS) models, bee rearing and its prospect, preparation of peanut butter, preservation of mushroom as well as chillies and Jam making.

The subject experts were Dr. Ruokuovilie Mezatsu, Khekali Sema, K Michael Pienyu, ACTO (soil science) Zhiete, ACTO (animal science) Dr. Temjennungsang, TO Keviyieno Zhasa and ACTO (agri extension) Longma Yanger.

The trainees visited KVK, Wokha and interacted with scientists and witnessed various demonstration units at the complex. The students also visited New Tesophenyu village and interacted with the farmers.
