MOKOKCHUNG — Nagaland lone Lok Sabha MP, S Supongmeren Jamir, has sharply criticised the BJP-led government for poor implementation of Act East Policy alleging that after BJP changed Look East into Act East policy, they have stopped implementing everything.

Addressing media persons at DCC office in Mokokchung on August 2, Jamir said, “If they are serious about the Act East policy, there should be road connectivity in the Northeast.”

He pointed out that they have mentioned road connectivity in the last budget session but nothing has been said about the northeast.

“They did not mention tourism for the northeast, but in every speech they mention potentiality, capacity and prospect of the prism for tourism. They talk about the uniqueness of the northeast in the tourism sector, but failed to mention anything about the northeastern states,” he alleged.

“Since they have changed the policy to Act East, we have demanded from the central government that Act East policy should also be implemented in spirit,” Jamir added.

While mentioning that flood and natural calamities occurred in huge magnitude in the hilly areas, he claimed that there was no mentioning about flood and natural calamities mitigation.

In this connection, he stated that they have conveyed to the Government of India for equal treatment as northeast is second to none and very much part of India.

To highlights ENPO issue in Parliament

Jamir also informed that he would highlight the Frontier Nagaland issue of the Eastern Nagaland Public Organisation (ENPO) during the parliament session.

“I am going tomorrow, we have another one week, I’ll try to present and highlight the ENPO issues,” Jamir said.

On Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (ISSER), Jamir said, “I am not certain whether the state government is aware of the land which has been earmarked is still there or not because it was committed in 2015. It is on record, the then Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley, has mentioned in his budget presentation.”

On airport, he said that only the Government of India and state government will know whether an airport at the state capital is viable or not. He added that as per the norm, there should be an airport connected to the state capital.

The MP further stated that the only alternative arrangement for tackling unemployment in the rural areas is the MGNREGS. He said the rights of rural people are deprived when the sanctioned daily wages are not given.
