Joint Committee on Prevention of Illegal Immigrants bandh on April 24
Dimapur, March 19 (EMN): The Joint Committee on Prevention of Illegal Immigrants (JCPI) has threatened a statewide shutdown (bandh) on April 24, in the event of the government of Nagaland failing to implement Inner Line Permit (ILP) regime in Dimapur and ‘make December 1, 1963, the single cut-off year for both ILP and RIIN for the whole state of Nagaland’.
In a press release issued on Thursday, the committee stated that it has postponed its previously proposed “protest rallies” in all district headquarters to April 17, “after assessing the current turn of events due to the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic worldwide”.
“If the government of Nagaland does not relent to the genuine demand of the indigenous people of the state, the JCPI would be compelled to launch a statewide bandh to be held on April 24, 2020 followed by non-cooperation movement till the genuine demands of the people are fulfilled
“A white paper on the RIIN will be issued to educate the public on the importance of RIIN exercise for effective implementation of ILP and other special provisions in the state of Nagaland which will be translated in all local dialects,” it stated.
