Diphu, June 7 (EMN): Polling officials left to their assigned polling centres from the counting centre at Diphu Government Boys’ High School on Tuesday for the smooth conduct of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council election. Polls will be held on June 8 across four Legislative Assembly constituencies of Diphu, Howraghat, Bokajan and Baithalangso at 908 polling stations with the total vote count of 6,93,985.

Yesterday, 21 number poll parties for far flung areas departed for their respective destinations from the counting centre at Diphu Govt. Boys HS School. The advance poll parties were sent to 21 polling stations of Singhason, Langpher, Korkanthi, Nomat and Lumbajong.

Altogether 84 polling officials accompanied by two Home Guards and two police personnel as security moved yesterday in the 21 polling stations which are located in remote areas. There is one presiding officer and first, second and third polling officers. Poll materials like ballot box, ballot paper, torchlight, rain coat, indelible ink etc., were given to the polling officials.

One of the presiding officers, Katharson Kathar, designated for Singnar Camp polling station under Singhason MAC constituency said, “As a government servant, I am happy to perform the election duty assigned to me by the government. I have not got election duty in remote areas. This will be my first experience climbing the hills of Singhason.”

“With me are three polling officials and accompanying us are two Home Guards and two police personnel as security. It is a great responsibility to me as I have to reach the polling materials safely to the destination and after voting is over ie, on June 8 evening, I have to again bring back the ballot box safely to be handed to the strong room.”

It may be mentioned here that there are areas which are not motorable in Singhason, Nomati and Korkhanti.

David Teron is another polling official assigned to Julien polling station under Singhason MAC constituency.

“As it is inaccessible and we have to take a Shaktiman truck to climb the Singhason hills. Hope the weather will be fine to reach our destination and return back after performing our duty, he said.

This time, female polling officials were also engaged in the KAAC election and they have been attached to the nearby town area. One of the female presiding officers said, ‘Previous year I was engaged as second polling officer but this year I am appointed as first presiding officer at Sitlabari LP school, Diphu inside Diphu town. Though we are trained, I am quite nervous but hopefully we will make it.’
