Karbi Anglong celebrates 15th foundation day of Karbi Film Society (KFS)

DIPHU —The Karbi film fraternity on Thursday came together to celebrate the 15th foundation day of Karbi Film Society (KFS), with a daylong programme held at Karbi People’s Hall, Taralangso in Diphu.

During the celebration, the KFS felicitated three individuals for their achievements in films.

Renowned film producer and director Dhaniram Tisso was felicitated as one of the most successful Karbi filmmakers. His recent film ‘Mirbeen’ has won three awards at the NIRI9 2nd international film festival held at Kolkata in March 2023. The awards include best actress, best cinematographer and best director. The film also won Prag Cine Award, in 2023 as the best film other than Assamese language.

Malin Tissopi was also felicitated for her success in her acting career. She was recently awarded the best actress in the film ‘Mirbeen’ at the NIRI9 2nd international film festival in Kolkata. She has also acted in Karbi films like ‘Pei Ne Kachinghon,’ ‘Kanghon Korhon Jangreso 2,’ Rahi and many more.

Rupali Timungpi, who had won the title for Woman of Dignity, Best Catwalk and Miss Beautiful Body in the Miss India contest, 2023 was also felicitated. She has also won Miss Karbi Anglong, in 2020 and Miss Assam in 2022.

Attending as the chief guest, Padmashree Dhaneswar Engti said that films are part of entertainment and through films cultures and languages of tribes and communities are promoted.

The Karbi films have made great contributions towards promoting the culture and language of the Karbis, Engti said. He appreciated the KFS for taking the initiative in promoting and developing Karbi films.

President, KFS in his presidential speech said that the KFS is working on the development of Karbi films. He said KFS is working to address the issues and problems of the film fraternity with the appropriate authority while citing that KFS will continue to work for the greater interest of the film fraternity.

KFS paid tribute to Rangsina Sarpo, Karbi’s legendary musician at the Rangsina Sarpo statue.

As part of the celebration, tree saplings plantation was also taken up at Taralangso complex.
