Karbi Anglong: Dacoit killed in police firing

Diphu, Jan.12 (EMN): A dacoit was killed in a police encounter in Karbi Anglong on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference in Diphu on Thursday, the Superintendent of Police, Sanjib Kr. Saikia said a person, who was attempting theft in Tengkarajan area under the Bakalia police station, was killed in a police ambush. The hideout of the dacoit was traced as per the information provided by the Bakalia police team.
At the site, the police team signalled them to stop but they refused and started firing back at the police.
One person from among the robbers was injured at the firing while the rest fled taking advantage of darkness.
The injured person, identified as Sahidul Islam of Dibostan, Hojai district of Assam, was taken to a hospital but was declared brought dead.
The victim had several dacoit-related cases in Karbi Anglong, added the police officer.
