Diphu, March 8 (EMN):  Joint Coordination Committee for Protection of Autonomy (JCCPA) has criticised Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for calling Karbi Anglong a ‘super state’ during a press briefing on March 6 (Sunday) and condemned the CM for making the ‘sarcastic remark’.

The CM was in Diphu on March 5 to attend the closing ceremony of the 48th Karbi Youth Festival here at Taralangso.

In a press conference held here at Central Committee office of Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC), president, ASDC and one of the convenors of JCCPA said the CM has used the word ‘super state’ for Karbi Anglong.

“There is nowhere to be found in the Indian constitution defining the word ‘super state’. From ‘super state’ it has become a super market as on all sides there is corruption and entangled with financial mismanagement,” Terang said.

Terang further said during every election, the BJP in their manifesto mentioned about the Autonomous State.

‘But practically the BJP government is not serious about it. If the State BJP is really concerned about it then discuss in the State Assembly about Article 244(A) of the Indian constitution for granting an Autonomous state for the three hill districts and send the resolution to the Central government.  The JCCPA wants immediate implementation of Article 244(A) of the Indian constitution and failing to launch a strong mass movement’.

General Secretary, JCCPA, Robindro Rongpi said ‘it is an insult for the people of Karbi Anglong’.

JCCPA further demanded creation of an Autonomous State as provided under Article 244 (A) of the constitution stating that it is ‘constitutional and democratic; and it is a longstanding demand’.

‘Many have sacrificed their lives for the cause of Autonomous Statehood. The sarcastic ‘super state’ comment of CM therefore, is an insult to those who have sacrificed their lives’, it said.
