Karbi Anglong observes National Dengue Day

Diphu, May 16 (EMN): Along with the rest of the country, National Dengue Day (NDD) was observed to create awareness as well as to intensify the preventive measures and preparedness for the control of the viral disease before the beginning of transmission season.

In Karbi Anglong, it was celebrated at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya School under Diphu Urban Centre.

District Vector Borne Disease Consultant, NCVBDC, Karbi Anglong Obed Killing, speaking to students, said it is an initiative by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare towards the prevention and control of viral fever in various states in the country.

The theme for this year’s National Dengue day is ‘Dengue is preventable; let us join hands’.

Dengue Day 2022 is also significant in making people aware about the facts of the viral disease which is caused by the Dengue virus (DENV, 1-4 serotypes), he said.

Awareness meetings and drawing competitions were organised for the students and prizes were also distributed.

Killing also informed that the National Dengue Day was celebrated in all health institutions including the Health and Wellness Centres in different parts of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong. Various activities like awareness meeting, impregnation of bed nets, blood slides collection, source reductions were undertaken and leaflets were also distributed to the community to mark the occasion. The communities also were made aware about the disease through fixed loudspeakers (FLS).

Joint Director of Health Services, Karbi Anglong Dr. Borsing Rongpi, District Media Expert, NHM,Karbi Anglong Monsun Singh and principal and teaching staff of the school participated in the programme. Nearly 300 students participated in the programme.

Later, at Diphu Urban Centre,  Joint Director of Health Services Dr. Borsing Rongpi launched the ‘Dengue-Free Assam’ online quiz competition to raise awareness in the community.
