Khamo seeks concerted efforts to conserve nature

THENYIZU — Advisor of Civil Administration Work Department (CAWD) and Taxes, Kudecho Khamo, on Wednesday called for concerted efforts towards nature conservation for posterity.

He stated this during the launch of a tree plantation drive organised by the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) along with its frontal organisations at Sanzho bridge over Sedzü River in Thenyizu village under Phek district.

Khamo appreciated the community for taking the effort to restore God’s gifted nature in the form of tree plantation.  He reminded that the state government has been working for the protection and conservation of nature.

Khamo called upon the people of the state not to destroy or damage but to give effort to protection and conserve for a resilient climate that would enable and boost the people to live.

He also warned of imminent danger of natural calamities and outbreaks of diseases if nature is destroyed, which would ultimately result in human sufferings.

Observing that there are still good area of protected forests within the jurisdiction of the Chakhesang tribe, he stressed the need to strengthen measures for conservation of biodiversity rather than exploiting them.

The keynote address was delivered by Vecito Dozo, CPO vice president, wherein he highlighted the objectives of CPO in undertaking the tree plantation. He stressed the need for tree plantation along the two-lane road which would not only beautify but help in conserving nature.

The president of the Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU), Pfhulo Sara, pointed out the rising impact of global warming with the increase of temperature among others and called for more proactive measures towards nature conservation.

He has sought timely pruning of those trees already planted and to reduce deforestation for firewood purposes.
