DIMAPUR — Advisor for CAWD and Taxes, Küdecho Khamo, criticised the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) for the poor condition of National Highway-29 (Kohima-Jessami Road), particularly the Kikruma-Chakhabama stretch.

According to a press release from the advisor’s office, while speaking at the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting in Phek on Tuesday, Khamo said the NHIDCL’s work was “very slow, sub-standard, and not following the specification properly.”

While the maintenance contractors have “totally failed to perform”, no action has been taken, he said, adding that the corporation has been displaying a “lackadaisical attitude” and blaming the monsoons and contractors, instead of taking responsibility for the “deplorable” road conditions.

Highlighting the hardships faced by commuters, including safety risks, financial losses due to vehicle damage and increased fuel consumption, and significant delays in travel time, he “expressed his surprised over the poor workmanship of NHIDCL engaging in Nagaland and questioned about their seriousness by comparing the works undertaken by the company in other states.”

“He also cautioned that the public may be compelled to even take more serious courses of action if the attitude of the company continues”, the press release stated.

The 21.90 km Kikruma-Chakhabama stretch along the NH 29 (Old NH-150), is being executed under the Bharatmala Pariyojana by Ratna Infrastructure Projects Pvt. Ltd.
