KOHIMA — The Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) on Wednesday launched the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS), a cleanliness campaign, at Old MLA Hostel Junction in Kohima.

Launching the campaign, Neikhozo Suokhrie, KMC chairperson, expressed delight to witness active participation of the citizens during the cleanliness drive.

The KMC chief executive officer (CEO), T Lanusenala Longkumer, administered Swachhata Hi Seva pledge to the participants from various wards of Kohima. She informed that SHS was kicked off at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat simultaneously with Safaimitra Suraksha Shivir-a free health camp for all sanitation workers, at the KMC office on September 18.

Longkumer informed that KMC has been collaborating with Zub-Zub India in carrying out house-to-house and door-to-door campaign for segregation of waste at source. She added that KMC field staff are giving out reusable carry bags to people, shoppers and everyone who are using plastic carry bags.

She added that various activities have been planned with the schools and colleges during the campaign which would conclude on October 2.

She informed that KMC has identified around 24 cleanliness target units (CTU) through the instruction of the ministry. She said volunteers especially the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Kohima Science College Jotsoma would clean the Kohima Science College road on September 28, while NSS Unit of Don Bosco College Kohima would clean the North part of the town-Ruliezou taxi parking areas.

Longkumer further informed that Swachh Bharat Diwas would be organised on October 2, where the hardworking sanitation workers and volunteers would be felicitated.

Meanwhile, T Lanusenala Longkumer, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) KMC administered the Swachhata pledge to the participants from various wards of Kohima.

As part of Swachhata Hi Seva 2024, a cleanliness drive was conducted at Kisima Naga Heritage Village on Wednesday. The campaign was organised by PHED, Kohima Rural/ Urban Division, in collaboration with Phesama village council and Kigwema village council.

In his keynote address, the principal secretary of PHED, E Mhonbemo Patton, highlighted the importance and objectives of the campaign. He acknowledged Phesama and Kigwema villages for their cooperation, support and looked forward for active participation till the Hornbill Festival.

A Swachhata pledge was administered by Lhousikhono Zinyu, while the vote of thanks was delivered by chairman of Phesama village council, Bizo M.

The ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign was also launched in Jalukie town on September 17. The event saw participation of councilors, head of departments, civil society organisations, students and teachers from different schools and colleges.

The special guest and EAC of Jalukie town, Sizin Renttah, administered the pledge to the gathering.
