Kohima Municipal Council felicitates best performing RRR centres

DIMAPUR— Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) held a felicitation programme on ‘MeriLiFE, Mera Swachh Shehar’ campaign, wherein the best RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) centre was awarded to Upper Agri Colony Women Organisation under Ward 17 held at its office premises on June 12.

An update from KMC stated that Officers’ Hill Women Organisation under Ward 10 was awarded second prize and PWD Panchayat Ward 11 comprising of five SHG was awarded the third prize. The best team work was awarded to Midland Ward 9 comprising three SHG.

It mentioned that the campaign launched on May 20 culminated on June 5 with a mass cleanliness drive in all the wards of the municipality. It added that 19 RRR centres were set up in different wards/ colonies as part of the campaign.

During the campaign, 163 volunteers participated in running RRR centres in different wards and colonies. The centres collected 4959.2 kg of clothes, 1803 pairs of shoes, 1133.3 kg of newspaper/ books/ carton/ used paper etc., 560.9 kg of electronics wastes, 312 kg of utensils, 188.4 kg of toys, 209.3 kg of reusable plastics and 61 Nos. of bags.

It stated that most of the items received have been picked up for reuse, while the remaining items are kept at the permanent RRR centre at Supermarket complex/ KMC office.

ZübZüb India was empanelled as the independent assessment committee for the best RRR centres, it informed.

It further stated that RRR centre would continue at Supermarket Complex/ KMC office.
