Kohima Smart City Development Limited completes 17 out of 35 projects

Kohima, June 25 (EMN): A total of 17 out of 35 projects implemented by the Kohima Smart City Development Limited (KSCDL) under the ‘Smart City Mission’ have been completed so far. 

Some of the completed projects are: Kohima Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), Capital Cultural Hall, beautification works, community building at New Market, pedestrian-friendly footpath, procurement of mobility hotspot etc.

This was informed by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of KSCDL, Kezha Theunuo while highlighting the status of Kohima Smart City projects on the occasion of the 7th anniversary celebration of the mission on the theme ‘Sabka Bharat, Nikharta Bharat’ held at Capital Cultural Hall in Kohima on Saturday.

Some of the ongoing projects include a multi-level parking at Old Medical Directorate, PR Hill and Nagaland State Transport bus station, a walkable street and cycle track, which is expected to be completed within two to three months, he added. 

Several other major projects that have already started are expected to be completed before June 2023, the deadline for completion of projects under the Smart Cities Mission.

The city centre, Kohima local ground redevelopment, battle tank redevelopment and community buildings with parking and commercial facilities are some of the projects to be completed by next June. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has extended the duration of Smart City projects till June 2023, beyond which no Smart City projects can be implemented.

In this regard, the CEO requested the citizens to co-operate so that the ongoing projects can be completed on time.

The original project cost of Kohima Smart City was INR 1000 crore on the basis of a 50:50 funding pattern (Centretate). However, the project cost was revised to INR 550 crore due to a change of funding pattern to 90:10 (central share  INR 500 crore and state share  INR 50 crore) by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, resulting in the cancellation of projects worth INR 450 crore.

The Kohima Smart City area-based development is limited to seven out of 19 municipal wards. The seven wards (located in the town area) are Midland, D Block, New Market, Daklane, Naga Bazaar, Choto Bosti, and Keziekie, covering 280 acres, it was informed.

Implementation of projects is, therefore, confined to these wards though the KSCDL have few projects for mobility, bus stoppage, CCTV, green belts and nurturing neighbourhood challenge, and hotspot in pan city, he informed.
