DIMAPUR — The Kohima Science College Jotsoma (KSCJ) celebrated its foundation day-cum-annual alumni lecture series-1 on September 15 with Dr. Joyce Zinyu Angami, the first lady graduate of Kohima Science College (1963-65), as the speaker.
Speaking at the programme, the college’s principal, Dr. Temjenwapang, has acknowledged the pivotal role played by the alumni in shaping the institution’s legacy. He recounted how the college began with only 21 students and subsequently increased to over 1700 students at present.
The keynote address was delivered by Nokchasashi, a 1992-95 batch and joint secretary to the Government of Nagaland. He mentioned about two projects namely Alpha 1 and Alpha 2. He informed that Alpha 1 was setting up broadband internet connection and purchase of computers in the college which were completed by the Alumni Association since its inception in 2009. The Alpha 2 project was the construction of a PG Girls’ Hostel which now houses more than 30 post-graduate girl students.
It was followed with a song presentation by Supongnukshi, IFoS officer.
The guest speaker, Dr Joyce, spoke on “Navigating through the social media era.”
“There are many pros of social media. If we do not abuse power, the world can become a beautiful place. We need to maintain control and discipline in doing so,” Dr. Joyce said.
She said social could be a ‘brutal’ place; a stimulant of depression and inferiority complexes. In this face of dynamism, she implored to ‘know the difference between real and not-real.’
She concluded with a Chinese proverb: “No man is an island. No man stands alone. Each one is my brother. Each one is my friend.”
The Alumni Association gathering culminated with a vote of thanks delivered by Rhosietho Nguori, vice president of KSCJ Alumni Association.
In the evening, the alumni took the stage to serenade the crowd with jazzy and melodic tunes from the 60s to the 90s.
