Lok Sabha election 2024: Voting in Nagaland on April 19; NDPP cautions members
DIMAPUR — The Chief Electoral Officer has announced that the elections to the lone Nagaland Parliamentary constituency will be held on April 19 and counting of the votes to be done on June 4.
The last date for filing of nomination is March 27; date of scrutiny is March 28; and last date of withdrawal is March 30, as per the update from the CEO, Nagaland.
It also updated that with the Election Commission of India having announced the schedule for the General election to the Lok Sabha, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has come into effect with immediate effect from March 16.
The MCC will be in force till the completion of the elections and applicable to all political parties, it added.
The office of the CEO has convened a meeting for all the recognised political parties at 2 pm on March 18, in the office chamber of the Chief Electoral Officer, for each they have been requested to depute at least two representatives each.
It may be mentioned that the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) had announced Dr. Chumben Murry as the consensus candidate of the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) and Indian National Congress has declared S Supongmeren Jamir as its candidate for the lone Lok Sabha seat in Nagaland.
NDPP cautions members
Meanwhile, the NDPP has directed all its members, including the candidate, elected members, chairpersons of PSUs and the central executive board (CEB) members to strictly adhere to the MCC and election rules, while upholding the principles as enshrined in the party’s constitution.
It also cautioned that strict disciplinary action would be taken against defaulters.
