Longchang Village Council condemns October 17 incident
DIMAPUR — The Longchang Village Council (LVC) has condemned the October 17 incident at Metsüben Resort, Chuchuyimpang village, Mokokchung, in which a person named Longshang Konyak was fatally shot by one Moasangba Jamir at around 4:30 pm.
In a press communiqué, the LVC condemned ‘the heinous act of taking the life of an innocent man’ and said that the unjust killing is an affront to the very foundations of humanity and the principles of justice.
“No cause, no grievance, can ever justify the senseless loss of an innocent life,” it read.
The council called upon the law enforcement agencies to ensure that justice is swift, transparent, and comprehensive and that the culprit is punished as per the law immediately.
Responding to ‘manipulating news reports on various social media platforms’ that alleged that the deceased had an altercation with his nephew under the influence of alcohol two days back and the victim had come with a Naga dao and started an argument with them, the LVC termed them ‘false and baseless’.
It further said that, as per the council’s interrogation with the eye-witness, there have not been any such cases of altercation between the two, and the nephew was not involved in the argument.
“In this tragic incident that unfolded, a life was taken abruptly, and an individual was killed by three multiple gunshots. Each bullet represents a shattered dream, a future unrealised, and a family forever changed. The details of this sorrowful event underline the gravity of the situation and the profound impact it has on both the victim’s family and society as a whole,” the statement read.
