Longkhum launches website to boost tourism
LONGKHUM — Coinciding with the UN World Tourism Day, the official website of Longkhum tourism (https://explorelongkhum.com) was virtually launched by Imtisenla Pongener, senior tourism officer f Mokokchung, on September 27.
The website, developed by Tabernacle Technologies Pvt Ltd., was sponsored by Late Dr. I Longrizung Trust and supported by Longkhum village council and Longkhum tourism committee.
Speaking on behalf of Dr. Longrizung Trust, L Alemtemsu Ao shed light on the activities supported by the trust. He said that the Trust is now extending its assistance to the development of tourism in Longkhum.
He also informed that Dr. Longrizung Trust is actively involved in organising health camps to address the lack of medical facilities, providing financial grants to MBBS students from Longkhum village and ‘Dr. I Longrizung Excellence Award’ to top-performing students from Fazli Ali College of which Dr. I Longrizung was a founding member.
With the unveiling of the website, Alemtemsu said that plans were afoot to enhance the local community’s capabilities in tourism management and suggested the formulation of a Longkhum tourism policy at the earliest to foster tourism development.
The Trust also assured to sponsor a receptionist for Longkhum tourism with an honorarium for a period of five years besides conducting training for villagers to manage website activities.
The Trust also donated necessary digital infrastructure including computers, printers and a WiFi modem to the Longkum tourism committee.
Atoba A Longkumer, grandson of Dr. I Longrizung and developer of the website, also spoke at the programme. He said that in today’s digital age, websites and brochures are the primary digital tools to connect Longkhum with the rest of the world.
He informed that the website has been designed to showcase the village’s rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, popular attractions, and geographical locations, complete with a map for directions from various districts.
Longkumer also expressed his gratitude to everyone involved in contributing to the success of the launching programme.
Meanwhile, the chairman of Longkhum village council, C Angang, acknowledged the Late Dr. I Longrizung Trust for sponsoring the website and expressed hope that the launch would mark the beginning of Longkhum tourism.
Longkhum village, which is located 17 km off Mokokchung headquarters, is a major rural tourism destination in the state renowned for natural rock formations, horticulture and cherry blossom among others.
