DIMAPUR — The Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) has extended support to stand of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) that only indigenous Nagas should contest in the forthcoming Urban Local Body (ULB) elections in Nagaland.

In the press release, the LSU said that it fully aligns itself with the decision taken by the NSF, recognising the importance of safeguarding the interest and aspirations of the indigenous Naga people.

The union asserted that such measures are essential to preserve the cultural identity and integrity of the community.

“NSF strongly advocated for the reservation of ULB election wherein the federation clearly states that all the candidates should be solely an indigenous Naga by blood, emphasising the principle of ‘Naga by blood, not by adoption,’” LSU said

Additionally, the NSF also advocated for the exclusion of women married to non-locals, along with their offspring, from contesting in the election.

“Therefore, the LSU directs all constituent units to cooperate fully on this matter and to actively support and promote the stance advocated by the NSF. Let us stand united in upholding the values and principles that define us as indigenous Naga people,” the release stated.
