Manipur Governor lauds role of journalists

IMPHAL — A five-member delegation of All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) led by its president, Bijoy Kakchingtabam, called on Manipur Governor, Anusuiya Uikey, at Raj Bhavan in Imphal on Tuesday and briefed on the role and responsibilities of the media fraternity for the welfare of the people in Manipur.

Governor lauded the indispensable role of the media persons for dissemination of essential information to all sections of society and also in changing lives of the people for the betterment mainly during the ongoing strife in Manipur. She also acknowledged the media fraternity for highlighting the concerns and grievances of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) taking refuge in relief camps.

Ambassador Philem Rohan Singh of International Meetei Christians Youth Assembly (IMCYA) along with four others also called on Governor at Raj Bhavan Imphal this evening and submitted a memorandum with an appeal to restore peace and harmony in Manipur as well as to ensure freedom of worship for Meetei Christians and other religions.

The visiting team, as a mark of gratitude to the Governor for her dedicated service to the people of Manipur for peace and harmony, offered their prayers during the visit.

Governor appreciated their efforts for initiating the peace process through religious activities and informed that continuous efforts are being put in for restoring peace and normalcy in the state.

Later, Dr. Sanabam Thaninleima of Khenjonglang, director of Centre for Theatre Research, Production and Community Welfare, along with one of her colleagues, also called on Governor at Raj Bhavan this evening and briefed on the process for initiating peace through emotional communication.

The governor suggested the visiting team to reach out to the IDPs in relief camps and to extend maximum assistance in the form of introducing skill development activities for sustainable growth.
